Read this before your first project

First-time setup can take a while. The Scribe downloads the transcription models and supporting components needed by your computer. Leave the app open, connected to the internet, and connected to power until setup finishes.

Transcription is private and local. Processing time depends on recording length and your computer’s processor, memory, and storage speed. Do not close the app, move the audio, or turn off the computer while it is transcribing.

Use material you have permission to process. You are responsible for copyright, recording consent, privacy, factual review, and everything you publish. Keep the source audio until you have checked and backed up the transcript and final exports.

The best results begin before the first word is recorded. These steps protect accuracy, recovery, and the original meaning of your work.

Install and complete first-time setup

Open The Scribe and allow its required models to download before beginning a serious project.

  1. Install and open the app.
  2. Grant microphone access when macOS or Windows asks.
  3. Keep the computer online and awake while models download.
  4. Open Settings and choose your transcription quality, save folder, appearance, and automatic audio cleanup preference.

Storage: keep several gigabytes free before a multi-hour session. The app checks for enough free space before Live Capture.

Start each day in Daily Desk

Daily Desk is the calm home for recurring creative work.

  • Capture a quick idea before it disappears.
  • Record a private voice journal and transcribe it locally.
  • Set a writing target and protect your streak.
  • Return to priority transcripts and books without searching through folders.

Daily habit: speak for five minutes, turn one idea into a note, then choose one project to advance.

Record first with Live Capture

The Scribe records the full session before transcription so the accuracy engine receives complete context.

  1. Connect your microphone and choose a quiet room.
  2. Open Start Live Capture.
  3. Speak and watch the waveform. Visible peaks confirm a live signal.
  4. For long sessions, connect power and avoid moving the source files.
  5. Press Stop & Transcribe when finished.

Waveform check: a flat line means no signal or the wrong input. Peaks stuck at maximum mean the audio may be clipping.

Transcribe existing media

You can also process audio, video, supported links, or a collection of files.

  • New Transcription: begin a standard import.
  • Open Audio/Video: select a recording already on your computer.
  • Link: process media you own or have permission to use.
  • Batch: queue multiple recordings and let them run in order.

Long jobs: leave The Scribe open and the computer awake. Completion speed is determined by the computer and recording length.

Review the factual master

Open the completed transcript and check it against the recording before any creative rewrite.

  • Correct names, numbers, specialist terms, quotations, and scripture references.
  • Keep meaningful stories and distinctive expressions.
  • Remove only obvious false starts or irrelevant repetition.
  • Use Add to Book when the transcript is ready.
Archive → choose transcript → Review → Add to Book
Accuracy watchword: AI can improve language, but the author must verify personal facts, names, claims, and exact quotations.

Build the book with clear instructions

Book Builder turns one strong transcript into a structured manuscript or combines multiple transcripts as source material.

  1. Choose one or more transcripts.
  2. Choose how closely the finished book should follow or develop your words.
  3. Optionally specify audience, tone, themes, exercises, or ideas to explore.
  4. Press Make My Book once and follow the time estimate and saved progress.
  5. Keep the app open and be patient; long books can take several minutes. Repeated clicks do not create a duplicate job.

Choose the correct polish level

Use the least aggressive level that achieves the result you need. This preserves originality and controls premium usage.

LightCorrect grammar, punctuation, transcription errors, and clarity without developing new ideas.
StandardExpand existing ideas and strengthen flow while staying closely focused on the source.
DeepProvide substantial editorial development and fresh original context while protecting the central voice.
UberTransform sparse source material into an ambitious ghostwritten manuscript anchored to the author’s main idea.
Best value: begin with Standard. Reserve Deep or Uber for chapters that truly need development, then use Light for final cleanup.

Read, edit, and approve every chapter

The completed version appears in the side reading panel while Book Polish shows live chapter progress.

  • Compare the rewritten text with the factual master.
  • Remove repetition, unsupported claims, and generic AI-style phrases.
  • Edit directly until the chapter sounds natural and specific.
  • Use Save as Final only when you approve the exact text.

Your control: the approved version—not an unseen draft—is the text used for export.

Create the cover

Cover Studio uses the book brief and selected manuscript context to produce an original concept, then adds title and author typography locally.

  1. Confirm the book title, subtitle, author, genre, and audience.
  2. Describe the mood, central symbol, and colors you want.
  3. Generate a concept and inspect it at full size.
  4. Check spelling, contrast, thumbnail readability, and genre fit.
  5. Save the chosen KDP-ready 1600 × 2560 cover.

Better prompt: describe emotion and symbolism, not a crowded list of objects. Keep the title area visually quiet.

Manage every book in Bookshelf

Bookshelf stores complete and incomplete projects together and lets you work without losing your place.

  • Select a volume to open its reader and editor in the side window.
  • Press Refresh to retrieve the latest state of an in-progress book.
  • Press Continue to reopen the exact manuscript and complete its remaining work.
  • Use status indicators to distinguish drafts, in-progress jobs, and completed books.
  • Remove an entry only when you are certain it is no longer needed.

Recovery: if a long book job is interrupted, check Bookshelf and refresh before starting another job. Do not repeatedly press Build.

Create accessible formats, promote the book from its own ideas, and use a clear readiness score before approaching a storefront.

Listen to the manuscript

The voice tools use voices installed on your computer. Mac can export one audio track per chapter; Windows provides a private chapter read-aloud preview inside Bookshelf.

  1. Choose a chapter and press Listen or Read aloud.
  2. Preview pronunciation, sentence rhythm, and difficult names.
  3. Correct the manuscript before creating final audio.
  4. On Mac, use Book Builder’s Audiobook export when the preview is ready.

Plan content in Social Studio

Subscribers can turn an approved transcript or manuscript into a consistent 3–30 day campaign without spending premium book credits.

  1. Choose the source and platforms.
  2. Set the campaign length and save your brand guidance.
  3. Generate the calendar.
  4. Review each platform preview and edit every draft.
  5. Approve posts, assign dates, and export the campaign.

Use Publishing Center

Publishing Center turns a finished manuscript into a visible, manageable launch.

  • Select a book and review its publication readiness score.
  • Complete missing metadata, cover, manuscript, and export requirements.
  • Choose a launch date and work through persistent tasks.
  • Generate and edit the eight-part marketing kit.
  • Return to Book Builder whenever an item needs correction.

Export and prepare for Amazon KDP

Create the format that matches the destination and inspect it before submission.

  • EPUB: reflowable ebook for KDP, Apple Books, and e-readers.
  • Print PDF: fixed 6 × 9 interior with contents and page numbers.
  • Word: editor handoff and tracked changes.
  • KDP package: manuscript, cover, metadata sheet, and upload checklist.

The Scribe can open your secure Amazon KDP Bookshelf and guide the upload, but it does not store your Amazon password or press Amazon’s final Publish button. You must review rights, territories, price, and the final preview.

Use private Chat as a thinking partner

Attach a transcript and ask the on-device assistant to explore your own material.

  • Generate title or chapter options.
  • Find repetition, weak sections, and unanswered questions.
  • Plan a follow-up message or teaching series.
  • Summarize themes without uploading the conversation.

Back up, update, and clean safely

Good housekeeping keeps large projects reliable and your storage under control.

  • Keep the source audio until transcription and exports are verified.
  • Back up the project and final exports to a second location.
  • Use the File Manager to organize recordings, transcripts, covers, and editions.
  • Install signed updates when The Scribe offers them.
  • Delete temporary audio only after successful verification and backup.
